Develop Algorithmic thinking

while preparing for UK Bebras Challenge (next one: 4th — 15th November 2024). Its winners get invited to Oxford for the final round!

Note: the Bebras Challenge or the final round in Oxford are not run by us, we merely prepare pupils for them.

Why, how and who

About

Our primary focus is to solve challenging algorithmic and logical problems, followed by coding in Blockly. All "from zero to hero" :) Thus, our students will develop essential programming & maths skills that are highly valued today! Besides the general objectives, we will also prepare for the Bebras Challenge: popular competition occurring in November (not organised by us). Pupils who score in the top 10% of it, are then invited to have another round in Oxford (called OUCC)!

The Issue

Sadly "think", "notice", "build a smart algorithm" components are boiled to nothing in most schools.

Quality & Level

I believe kids can do much more than most people think. So the educational materials are problems-based, some of them are quite challenging.

Content Author

My own background is many maths olympiads (e.g IMO), recently graduating from the University of Cambridge, and using Python for my own career.

Remark

The rest of the quanta.world website is dedicated to a different project (for older pupils): it will all be united and nicely structured later on.

Pick Your Plan

There are several age groups in the Bebras competition, and technically years 4 & 5 are in the so-called "Castors" one, participants of which don't have another round in Oxford. However, I believe you can still be preparing alongside the "Juniors" age group, i.e slightly older kids who do have that round in Oxford! The problems are not that tough... It is then up to you and your school to pick which age group to take part in.

Released Once a Week Starting May 13

£19 for everything

* In case there are too many sign ups, I will have assistants, who are also Cambridge University students or graduates. So the level will be maintained :)

Junior-Plus

This is a sequel to the plan right above with more practise, challenging problems and more Blockly coding. It will be launched if there is enough interest starting June 17th.

5 Problem Sets, 4 Homeworks

Could start in mid-June, after the above ends

Same pricing as above

Bebras competition has several age groups, with one of them being "Junior" one. This is the youngest of the groups, for years 6 & 7, that has an amazing opportunity of winning prizes and getting to Oxford for the final round. So trying to get there, alongside with developing general algorithmic thinking, is what our goal is in any of the plans below.

Educational Process

Everything is happening online. But to make things more engaging than most online platforms can, our lessons happen online in a 2D virtual world which you can enter 24/7!
Besides the basic functionality, in this virtual world you can walk around, interact with some objects and maybe most importantly talk to someone (e.g a teacher) in private by walking up to him/her.

Getting In Touch

In case you have any questions or propositions, simply fill out the form below or email at hello@quanta.world. The response will come as soon as possible :)

Thank you! We will get back to you as soon as we can.
